If you’re running a business locally in Calamvale, you certainly won’t want any of your appliances causing a calamity. Having your electrical appliances regularly tested and tagged is how you can help safeguard your business against potential liability and prosecution.
In some industries it is mandatory to have a test and tag performed at least every three months. In others, this may be an optional process from a legislative point of view, but it’s still a very good idea to get periodic inspections made anyway.
The reason it’s important to consider having a test and tag inspection performed is that it’s possible that if somebody were harmed due to an appliance fault, you could be held liable if you did not have reasonable grounds to believe the appliance was safe to operate.
Now you can get your appliances expertly tested at an affordable cost right here in Calamvale with Jim’s Test & Tag.

Why test and tag is necessary
It may not seem like an important process, but the truth is that it’s one of the most important safety precautions you can implement. According to an article published in the March 2019 edition of Appliance Retailer magazine, the ACCC quoted statistics indicating that about 780 people are killed in Australia each year due to appliance faults, and there could be as many as 1000 injuries per week.
While the focus for the ACCC was mainly on household consumer appliances, it’s clear that industrial appliances also must be maintained safely and should be operated correctly. And because many industrial appliances are operated in conditions where there are significant environmental dangers and increased risk, the necessity for regular safety inspections is obvious.
How test and tag works
When you have your appliances tested by an expert safety technician, the first step is to check the appliance matches its description and has the correct serial number. You’d probably be surprised, but it’s not really all that unusual for fake appliances to be discovered in this way.
Some overseas manufacturers have sometimes been tempted to imitate famous brand name products, but their imitations have not been subjected to the same degree of safety testing that the real products require. The first stage in the test and tag process can discover that deception.
After this, the physical condition of the appliance should be checked to make sure it’s not defective structurally. As an example, the product may have missing safety features, or the body of the appliance may be cracked. These defects could make the product unsafe to use.
Finally, the inspection also tests that the appliance works properly in terms of the current draw. If the appliance doesn’t show abnormalities, and there is no reason to consider it unsafe, the inspector will then apply a tag to the appliance.
This tag can be considered a certification that the product is not believed to be unsafe if it is operated correctly. Once applied, a tag should not ordinarily be removed except on the next occasion the appliance is inspected, because it is your evidence that the inspection was done.
